My Path

Bio -

As a Washington, DC native who grew up immersed in the arts and developed into a modern renaissance woman, I seamlessly integrate my roles as intuitive, energy worker, cognitive behavioral therapist, artist, musician, dancer, yogi, and mama, to help people find joy in the present, make peace with the past, and manifest their dream future.

With an eclectic approach that is heart-centered, integrative, trauma-informed, & dedicated to serving a diverse, culturally rich audience, the process in everything I do is very much influenced by my roots in jazz & improvisation. Healing arts offerings include sound baths, meditation & mindfulness, stress management workshops; unique 1:1 sessions organically combining meditation, Reiki, Transformational Life Coaching, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mind-body skills, the expressive arts, and sound healing; Reiki immersion training & certification, trauma healing cohorts, visual art or music workshops, group coaching containers, customized retreats, Food As Medicine, and more.

The overarching goal of this work is to be simultaneously incredibly relaxing and restorative, while also providing the opportunity for you to actively dive deeper in your personal work, if you wish.

Over the past 30 years, I've lived a deeply fulfilling life as a independent interdisciplinary artist and educator, teaching and performing tap dance and percussion in the U.S. and abroad, producing, directing, and choreographing numerous residencies and performances; teaching visual and language arts, along with my unique Museum As Classroom series; and working as a photographer, writer, and editor, both for news organizations and the community at large (see my photo site).

Throughout most of my adult life, I have also deeply studied, and done my best to embody the teachings of, a range of esoteric schools, world religions (I am non-religious and deeply spiritual), mindfulness and meditation disciplines and contemplative practices, and I am thrilled, honored, and grateful to be living my dream in sharing healing and the arts with the world.

Back story -

"Look, I did it!"

My parents sure did peg me well when they finally chose a name for me sometime between 6 weeks & 3 months old (I'll save the full story for a blog post).  I was born in Washington, DC on a Thursday evening, and until I was four, raised literally above and in a legendary DC jazz bar called One Step Down. My first name means 'of art' in Latin. My middle name, Marie, means, among other things,  'rebellion' (and 'star of the sea'. And my given last name, Mooney, essentially means 'wealth' in Gaelic. Wealth of Artistic Rebellion. They nailed it.

I have been into all of the arts for as long as I can remember.  I was raised by a single father who always supported my interests with enthusiasm, and even though we were scraping by, he would make things happen.  If I wanted dance lessons, or piano, vocals, special art workshops, to join a play, etc., he was in full support and facilitated in any way he could.  Much of who I am now has grown from that.

I grew up for the bulk of my childhood in Arlington County Schools in Northern Virginia (we moved there when I was 7), where the arts were highly valued, with comprehensive offerings.  I ate it up, making art, singing, playing music, joining school plays, trying different instruments, and going to a local dance studio 3 to 5 days a week. This went on from 2nd grade through high school. Once I could drive at age 16, I was all over the DC area taking classes as well.

So... we all have those moments we will remember forever, and that somehow shape who we are...  In my senior year, I was talking with one of my favorite teachers, my Musical Director/vocal coach, Mr. G.  He was helping me talk through a bit of an 'identity crisis,' so to speak, as everyone was going off to college, and I was trying to distill what I was going to focus on as there were so many different things I was interested in...

I was trying to find my path, and he said...

.

"You know, Artis... Jack of all trades, Master of none...."

Protest came forth

in some silent & wordless rebuttal

from the depths of my soul,

and a seed was planted

in my heart & mind.

Something was stirred in me, and I knew that yes, I would indeed prove him wrong, and that I could do any & every thing I put my mind to...

I loved all of the arts and knew I could not completely give any of them up, so I made it work for me!  They have served me well and influenced one another as I've moved between them with an ebb & flow, successfully mastering & building a career around whichever one(s) was/were my focus at the time...  and eventually incorporating the healing arts as well.  This is what gave birth to the idea of 'Boundless' for me a long time ago - the idea that I can do anything I want to do.

And here I am....

So my "ta-da!" - my "Look, I did it!" is a nod -

to my sweet father, who transitioned out of this world in October 2021 - who is and always has been one of my best friends and biggest supporters;

my Mama, who transitioned out of this world in April 2024, with whom I could speak the language of all things metaphysical, spirituality, karma, quirky art, dream interpretation, and astrology;

and my Vocal Director, teacher, and friend, Mr. Greennagle - who I still talk to on occasion, and adored for many reasons, in part for the ways like this in which he challenged me and my desire to 'do it all' in a light and jolly way.  They all impacted my life immeasurably as I struggled to understand who I was & what I was here for.

I have rebelled the dictum "Jack of all trades, Master of none" for as long as I can remember.  I am a lifelong multidisciplinary artist and an empath through-&-through, and it took me many years to accept that I am also a healer, take responsibility for that role, collect 'tools for my toolkit,' and develop and use my gifts to help others in an appropriate way, rather than helping those who don't really want to help themselves (in the process, draining myself of life force until I was just about half-dead).

So - after quite a wild ride, here I am.

In addition to my healing arts business, I do still tend to my eclectic nature - I make art, play music, mostly shoot photography or video for personal love and for my business, and occasionally teach drumming in schools, and my happy feet still burst into spontaneous rhythms, in my boots, sneakers, and occasionally tap shoes.

Family life - It's a full house, and I love it!

I am a single Mama of three, now ages 13, 17, & 22 running a full house. Six years ago, my little brother with multiple disabilities / autism, moved in with us; he's now 39! We also have been delighted to welcome into our home 2 years ago my niece and her now-3-yo daughter. For four and a half years, I also was the full-time caregiver for my father, until he transitioned to another dimension at the age of 91 on Oct. 3, 2021.

My focus at this time is continuing to grow the reach of my healing arts business which somehow encompasses everything I love to do, & elevate my art career as well.

I am dedicated to showing you how you too can live a Boundless Life!
